Next Whiskey Wednesday, 3 July 2019 at 20:00: US Craft Whiskey At Its Kicks !

Last time we tasted Bourbon whiskey, the most famous US whiskey.

Next, in our series surveying the incredibly rich craft whiskey scene in the US, we sample some really extraordinary products which showcase the range of possibilities that such a varied terroir in that huge country can provide.

In this tasting we sample Millet from Koval, Rye from Catoctin Creek in Virginia and from Balcones in Texas, a gentle Bourbon from Reservoir, an intense 100% Wheat from Reservoir, and finally the incredible smoked corn from Balcones: “Brimstone” which is made by bubbling Texas scrub oak smoke through the finished Whiskey.

Next Whiskey Wednesday: 19 / 06 at 20:00. The theme is: A Two-Way Road: Bourbon Meets Rye

Last time we tasted Rye whiskey, the “original” US whiskey, with its special flavour profile emphasising pepperiness and fruitiness.

Now we move on to the most famous kind of US whiskey: Bourbon. Instead of Rye, Bourbon is mainly Corn.

In this tasting we sample Bourbon from Koval, and Balcones, and compare them to Rye from Catoctin Creek and Reservoir. In addition we taste Henry McKenna Single Barrel Bottled in Bond which was chosen in March 2019 as “The World’s Best Whiskey” at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Only the second time a Bourbon has won this award.
